The Prompt
2022 DESIGN & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROMPT
In this case study, you will do further research into the psychographic profile and purchase drivers of the Gen Z consumer. You will focus on what you believe to be the key purchase drivers (i.e. sustainability, social causes, etc.) and develop a line of fashion products (apparel, accessories, footwear, beauty or home goods) that you believe will have the greatest opportunity to succeed. You will also identify the retailer and/or e-commerce platforms where you would launch your line. Your objective is to design a branded apparel (men’s, women’s, kids, or gender neutral), accessories, footwear, home or beauty line that will resonate with the Gen Z consumer.
Timeline is...
a sustainable and timeless clothing brand made by Trish Le in 2020. This luxury brand strives to please consumers with an appreciation for utilitarian and versatile design. Dedicated to transparency and authenticity, Timeline promises to be current with the ever-changing social climate, modern with the new generation, and true to our breadth of sophistication.
Why Utilitarian Design?
Drawing fashion trend parallels from the post-WWII era to our current post-quarantine era, I found that brands were often successful when their design philosophy was guided by utilitarianism. Designing innovative utility wear is especially essential since Gen Z is more conscious about sustainability than any other generation. They are more likely to continue wearing timeless clothing since it will never go out of fashion.
The Case Study
In order to make an apparel line for Gen Z customer, I had to research purchase drivers and build a business strategy.
Then, I can proceed with the design process, i.e. making mood boards, sketching, sourcing fabrics, choosing colors & prints, and illustrating.

THE LOOK BOOK
For the lookbook, I chose to illustrate my fashion designs on the models, providing customers with options on what they can wear in a week. The lookbook also includes totes bags, shoes, and other accessories, such as masks and hats, that my customer can wear throughout the week.
